What are essential oils?

Essential oils are aromatic, naturally occurring highly concentrated parts of plants that are found in seeds, barks, flowers, roots & other parts of plants. They have a long history of being used for food preparation, beauty treatments, cleaning products, perfumes, mood enhancers, emotional support & much more. As they are highly concentrated parts of plants, they are quite potent and strong, so there needs to be some education around safe application and usage.

How do I use essential oils?

Aromatic – using a diffuser can purify the air of unwanted odours, can be stimulating with certain types of oils & can also be calming.

Research has shown that the effect of fragrance & aromatic compounds can exert a strong effect on the hypothalamus (the command centre of the body) & the limbic system (seat of memory & emotions)

Topical – can be applied to the skin and easily absorb, but needs to be applied with caution with some oils or diluted with a carried oil.

Internal – can be used in cooking for flavour or support a variety of health conditions.

Some benefits of essential oil use:

  • Emotional support: lifting mood, increases alertness, calm anxiety, enhances memory
  • Supports immune function
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Rejuvenates skin
  • Soothes digestive issues
  • Improves circulation
  • Provides natural alternatives to household cleaners

Quality

Purity is important when you are thinking of purchasing essential oils and you really do get what you pay for with essential oils. Many oils on the shelves contain fillers, or other elements that dilute and alter the purity of the oil, and in turn can be quite harmful & toxic to the body. The oils that we have introduced into the studio are pure, clean & high in quality, which will provide the best therapeutic benefits & will leave you feeling safe with their use.
